Get the most out of your visit to Pyramid Lake by coming prepared and informed. Use common sense and follow general safety rules to keep you and your family safe while you boat, swim or enjoy yourself around the water. Here some safety tips about recreation at Pyramid Lake.
- Be weather wise—The weather can change fast. Sudden high winds and thunderstorms can make conditions hazardous in a hurry. Alternatively, temperatures soar during the summer months. Bring extra clothes for all weather. Come prepared with a hat, sunblock, and lots of water.
- Boat responsibly—Know and obey federal and state regulations and waterway markers. Make sure the boat is in top operating condition and equipped with the proper safety equipment (life jackets, fire extinguisher, signaling device, etc.). Maintain a safe speed at all times and NEVER drink and drive.
- Swimming— Never leave a young child unattended near water and have young children or inexperienced swimmers wear life jackets around water. Check the water depth, don’t take chances by overestimating your swimming skills, and always swim with a buddy.
- Be aware of your surroundings— Pyramid is a relatively remote lake situated in a harsh environment.
